SOFTDIV - Software Diversity and Industrial Production Systems

Our first project SOFTDIV brings software diversity to the IPS world by accommodating its differences. On the one hand, the programming languages used in an IPS context differ from the traditional systems programming languages of regular desktop computers, such as C and C++. On the other hand, the hardware systems used in IPS contexts often also differ from traditional, Intel x86 and ARM based devices that are much more commonly used in traditional desktop and mobile computing. We will survey the landscape from a software and hardware perspective to determine which languages and architectures need to be supported. We aim to maximize the value of our outcomes by devising an infrastructure that is both, (i) sufficiently general enough to support all requirements, and (ii) does not reinvent the wheel if it is not necessary.
