PUFFIN - Physically-Unclonable Functions and IPS

PUFFIN's goal is to employ physically unclonable functions as a fingerprint to uniquely identify IPS technology. In the DEPS project, we use a revolutionary PUF concept based on Rowhammer attacks that is perfectly suited to our purposes. The fundamental idea is to employ Rowhammer on DRAM chips to build physically unclonable bitflip patterns.

However the Rowhammer properties of DRAM modules vary broadly. As a result, we propose to perform a longitudinal study to

  • collect DRAM module data over several generations of DRAM chips, independent from manufacturers, and
  • thoroughly analyze these data to identify trends and build a predictive model.
